Stop Media Deregulation

Oppose harmful mergers and monopolies.

Waves of media and telecommunications mergers like Comcast-NBCUniversal and AT&T-Time Warner have swallowed up diverse voices and competitive alternatives that allow people to connect and communicate. Regulators should critically examine proposed mergers not just with a renewed and strengthened antitrust lens, but also with an eye toward protecting people from the growing power of monopolies to warp politics and the public interest.

Starting points:

    1. Oppose the T-Mobile/Sprint merger, which would raise prices, crush competition and disproportionately harm low-income people and communities of color.

    2. Support antitrust efforts to investigate media and tech companies with outsized market power; promote enforcement action to end monopolistic abuses.

    3. Appoint FCC commissioners, FTC commissioners and DoJ officials who prioritize the public over industry profits and bring a critical eye to vague and unenforceable public-interest claims made by merger proponents.
